Violin Concert by Padmashri A Kanyakumari

TGS USA proudly presents a special Carnatic classical violin concert by Padma Shri and Sangeeta Kalanidhi awardee, Vidushi A. Kanyakumari. She will be accompanied by the renowned and highly respected Mridangam Vidwan, Sri Patri Satish Kumar. 

Kumari Avasarala Kanyakumari is a top-ranking Carnatic violinist with an illustrious career spanning over 59 years. She is celebrated for her "scintillating solo" performances, and her innovative approach brings a unique blend of classicism and creativity to her concerts. Her playing style, which closely mirrors vocal music, is the hallmark of her performances. Known for her touch of novelty, she carefully selects ragas for each concert presentation, often introducing and bringing life to unfamiliar compositions. Her work has been highly acclaimed by music scholars and critics alike.

Kum. Kanyakumari has revolutionized the art of teaching, training over a thousand students worldwide without charging a fee. She has created seven new ragas, each named after the seven holy hills of Tirumala, as well as individual ragas such as Gomatha, Trimurthi, Mahalakshmi, Ganga, and Godavari.


Her contributions to music have earned her numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri Award from the Government of India in 2015, the prestigious Sangeetha Kalanidhi Award from Madras Music Academy in 2016, and the Naadanidhi Award from Datta Peetham in 2017. She has also been recognized by the Limca Book of Records in 2004, the India Book of Records in 2012, and received an Honorary Citizenship of the State of Maryland, USA. Additionally, she holds the title of Asthana Vidushi from TTD, Udupi Math, and Raghavendra Swamy Math, among others.
